Bochum.
Impressions of the premiere of "Penthesilea" at the Schauspielhaus Bochum. With Sandra Hüller, a major actress is part of the Bochum ensemble.
Again exhausted, it was also the fourth big premiere of the new season: the audience celebrated the "Penthesilea" of Johan Simons with applause and applause Bravo! – Calls for both actors Sandra Hüller and Jens Harzer. With the performance, the "new" Schauspielhaus has confirmed its still young reputation as an artistically demanding venue (see the review in the main section of this journal).
We did not have to wait for anything from director Johan Simons. On one side, the Dutchman is known as a theater director, who is deeply suspicious of sound effects and who perceives the scene as a mirror image of a world in which many are in trouble. However, he nevertheless believes in the purifying power of enlightenment and love. Both coincide in his dark "Penthesilea". Faced with the sadness that the bloody end brings, the happy moments of tender tenderness of two people attracted one by the other by magic are all more brilliant.
Only two or three hits a month
"Penthesilea" will be little in the game plan, two or three shots a month, which is due to the cast. Jens Harzer is "only" the guest of the scene in Bochum, so it is important to get rid of it. After all, Mime, born in 1972, is currently one of the most sought after artists and, since 2009, permanent member of Thalia Ensemble in Hamburg. Bochum is lucky to understand that Sandra Hüller is part of the new ensemble!
Actress of the year
The artist (* 1978) is known to the public more as a film than as a theater actress.
With Maren Ades, "Toni Erdmann", in which Hüller played the female lead alongside Peter Simonischek, she was represented at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. She also participated in the film "In the corridors" of the Berlinale. The fact that the 40-year-old actress was "actress of the year" in 2012/2013 proves that she is also an exceptional theater actor.
In the expectation of "photos of your great love"
As for Simons' "Penthesilea", the evening was full of highlights, but the most incredible moments go to Sandra Hüller's story. For example, when she is asleep for a few moments on the light bar of the stage floor, only the Amazon very aggressive, become a creature peaceful, vulnerable and defenseless.
Without emotion, Sandra Hüller touches the audience in the heart. Or when she finally screams the love and sorrow of Penthesilea in a captivating monologue shot directly at the audience, on the ramp. Very moving, it is the great art of the presentation!
So you can expect the 22nd of November and the "pictures of your big love" at Kammerspiele. Tom Schneider staged the literary road movie based on Wolfgang Herrndorf's well-known book in the form of a concert, a drama and a narration. With Sandra Hüller as Isa, a wanderer of desire.
