The awards ceremony took place at the Theater Basel, in front of 400 guests, as announced by the officials. The winner of the Swiss Book Prize this year is 30,000 francs; The other four shortlisted authors each receive 3,000 francs.

The jury justified his decision: "Peter Stamm leads us into a virtuously constructed labyrinth in which we lose ourselves with joy." He has written a double layered novel in which two pairs of artists are reflected.

In her eulogy, Christine Richard pointed out that, according to the text, Stamm had written a book on the power of memory, the story of repetition. "The other books have an action, here the action is the book, nothing else."

In his novel "The sweet indifference of the world", the Swiss writer Peter Stamm deploys on 156 pages a puzzle game that addresses one of the central issues of human life. In the end, the author pleads with the novel for acceptance and serenity towards life.

Peter Stamm Heinz Helle, Gianna Molinari, Vincenzo Todisco and Julia Lucadou were among the finalists.
