Czech director Petr Weigl died Saturday at the age of 79, today reported the newspaper "MF Dnes". Weigl is made a name with operatic and musical adaptations such as "Rusalka" after Dvorak from 1977 and "Winterreise" after Schubert from 1994 with singer Brigitte Fbadbaender.

He twice won the Prix Italia, for "The Labyrinth of Power" from 1969 and the 39th film adaptation of the ballet Prokofiev "Romeo and Juliet" from 1972. Ten years ago, he was awarded the Vladislav Vancura Prize of the Czech badociation of the TV industry FITES. In 2016, he received the Thalie Theater Prize from the Czech Actors Association for his lifetime achievement

. In addition to his television work, Weigl was also active from 1976 to 1991 as a playwright at the Ballet Ensemble of the Prague National Theater. Weigl, born in Brno on March 16, 1939, studied at the Famu Film School in Prague.
