Asmik Grigorian is probably the new star of opera heaven since tonight. After the Marie in "Wozzeck" the previous year, she gave the Salomé to the Salzburg Festival tonight under the direction of Romeo Castellucci and under the musical direction of Franz Welser-Möst with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Vienna.
With many increases she was the star of the evening in this key work of almost two hours of musical modernism. The director Castellucci used the archaic Felsenreitschule to stage a "Salome" oscillating between a breathtaking minimalism and sometimes exaggeratedly thick meanings.
The public reacts first to shock, with so many deep abysses. Castellucci also interpreted the model as an invitation to a series of paradoxical interventions – a process that should not miss its impact. A detailed discussion follows on ORF.at/salzburgerfestspiele18
