FILMSTARTS: You are not only the main actor, but also one of the five writers. How did the collaboration happen?

Paul Rudd: We all met together everyday in a room for a very long time and wrote. And even before that, we constantly sent out ideas and drawings. It was really a great team work, which continued over and over again. After all, with such a movie, many always change until the very beginning of filming and even during filming.

FILMSTARTS: One of the best scenes is Michael Penas' narrative monologue, an idea that was already in the first film worked wonderfully. How did you manage this time? How much is expected from how much improvisation? And we filmed this sequence for you?

Paul Rudd: There was a lot in the script, but Michael is so funny that you want to give him space to do what he wants. We first had to film it completely, because eventually we had to repeat everything that was sync on the lips and it was quite complicated to install in the program. We had to record his role very early, because in this case there are many people that we had to film after, as they act on his words.

And it's a strange job. We set up speakers that we used to record continuously, and then you try to move your lips in sync.

FILMSTARTS: You do not only play Michael Pena, but also Michelle Pfeiffer. How did you prepare? Did you watch him move to pick her up?

Paul Rudd: Unconsciously, I did this all my life through the many movies I watched. But yes, I have studied it, of course. But I did not really want to watch them on the set because I already felt a little scary . I have therefore thought, I hope that there is still room and I do not need to copy Michelles too closely.

FILMSTARTS: Marvel's films usually have a slight tone, but you push it a little further. really crazy and super funny. Was it clear from the start that comedy should be based on its predecessor?

Paul Rudd: Yes, we have already introduced the characters and we felt that we had more room for that to put even more on the comic side. When we made the first film, it took some time before we really understood how serious Scott Lang is, how much he has to become a star of action. But now that we have done all that, we have had a lot more freedom.

It's the great thing about this world, where so many movies coexist. You have something like "Black Panther", then also "Ant-Man". Two completely opposite movies, but they exist in the same world. And you have stuff like "Ragnarok". I really like that. This film has blown me. I saw it and thought it was just a super third movie "Thor". It's super-funny and it still works in the already established world.

And in the end I have to say: I turn around an ant in this movie. Sorry, there's room for jokes.

FILMSTARTS: There are so many different superhero movies, but you hear again and again that there are too many now. What is your opinion on this?

Paul Rudd: I had an explosion with all Marvel movies. Since I have the job, I badure myself that I look at everyone and love everyone until now. I hope there is room for everything. Especially with Netflix and all these services now so much content is produced. It's a good thing and makes diversity. I do not hang on to genres either. I just want to see good things.
