Amsterdam – As often as the words "cool", "young" and "casual" appear in the presentation, the small, compact Wolfsburg SUV can at least hope for a radically young design revolution. Because Umstürze is fashionable but never seen, it's finally the surprise: the T-Cross is a typical VW, perfectly separated and swept for taste, necessarily majority.

What is surprising is the short distance from the larger T-Roc: only about twelve centimeters, a width in the hand, separate the two from the outer length, the wheelbase is only three centimeters. While the T-Roc is rather in a car look discreetly elevated, the T-Cross aspires to a little more bullish: the dominant grille probably inspired the two Americans and China has proposed to large SUV Atlas and Terramont, for The lighting panel located at the back of the car was probably the Seat Cordoba Vario of the 90s godfather.

Eleven centimeters taller than Polo, which he adds as a crossover urban model and can be considered a modern heir to cross-polo, he also installs about the same much higher seat – the feeling of space for pbadengers also remains virtually identical. With a trunk volume of 385 liters, the T-Cross is already well above the Polo. Thanks to the adjustable rear seat up to 14 inches in length, the storage capacity can even reach 455 liters – but at the expense of leg room at the rear The size decreases. With the rear seatback folded down, the T-Cross manages to carry an incredible transport volume of 1281 liters, which makes it almost comparable to the larger T-Cross.

The badpit landscape is harmoniously designed, the instruments – possibly digitally executed – and the center-mounted infotainment display, which varies depending on the equipment between 6.5 and 8 inches in diameter, are well-arranged. on one level. A bit disappointing, however, once again after the current selection of Polo and T-Roc materials: even the T-Cross is representative of VW's new hard plastic aesthetic, the Wolfsburg reducing the gap in quality with Skoda and Seat recently by negligence. This impression is reinforced by the simple and economical look of the optional 3D decoration on the dashboard. The T-Cross driver can console himself with a generous offer of support systems and numerous digital options.

For the commercial launch in December, two 95- and 115-hp three-cylinder petrol engines, already known by Polo & Co, offer at least enough power in the city center. Anyone who wants to enjoy the pleasure of driving and rapid progress in the terrestrial environment will have to wait until the first quarter of 2019 to be able to use the 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine and the 150-hp four-speed automatic twin-clutch. As an option, the 115 horsepower gasoline engines and the only remaining alternative to diesel, the 95 hp 1.6 TDI, are currently excluded from four-wheel-drive or more powerful engines. The Austrian prices have not yet been announced, we can expect a German base price of 17 975 euros in this country, but at least a starting rate of less than 20 000 euros. The official launch of the market will take place in April, but a first personal meeting with the T-Cross will already be possible at the Vienna Auto Show in early January.
