"The first name": verbal carnage around Adolf
Comedy entertaining and well interpreted "The First Name".
Christoph Maria Herbst, Caroline Peters, Justus von Dohnany (from left to right) and behind Florian David Fitz Picture: Constantine
This is a good Kammerspiel, staged director Sönke Wortmann ("The miracle of Bern") – with a beautiful German dramatic ensemble and after the brilliant comedy model of the duo of French writers Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière, celebrating success on stage and has already been filmed. Wortmann has a few updated and adapted it to Germany, as well as to Goethe and AfD. The intellectual literature professor Stefan (wonderfully fussy and lecturer Christoph Maria Herbst) and his wife, of course, with double surname (always in good humor Caroline Peters) invite you to dinner: the musician Rene (Justus von Dohnany, sensitive and supposedly gay) comes as well as Elizabeth's brother, the rich but clever Thomas (Florian David Fitz) and his pregnant girlfriend (refreshing Janina Uhse). After a first chat, Thomas reveals how we will call the expected son: Adolf … That's right! You can not name a child after a mbad murderer, especially not in Germany … Stefan is dismayed.
A verbal carnage unfolds, in which the first name quickly falls behind, as many things moan, which have so far been kept close to family and friendly blankets. Sharp dialogues, refined word duels, egoisms and vanities, wounds and desires can be found in this comedy – played by a brave – joking team – with a funny and short appearance by Iris Berben as a grandmother smiling – done. Entertaining!
