Perhaps already at the developer conference in November, Samsung presents a foldable smartphone. What you can do of course plays a secondary role for South Koreans, the main thing being first.
For years, it was badumed that Samsung was developing a foldable smartphone. By the end of 2017, patent designs have emerged and in early 2018 it was announced that Samsung would already present the Galaxy X at the Mobile World Congress. At the end of July, Samsung presented a flexible, almost indestructible OLED screen. In the end, "PhoneArena" would have even announced a specific date. DJ Koh, CEO of Samsung Mobile, reportedly introduced the device at the company's developer conference, which will be held in San Francisco on November 7 and 8. To date, the mysterious folding smartphone was not well known. As Samsung had originally imagined, the device shows a patent application of October 2015.
Vertical or horizontal?
About two weeks before the conference, Bloomberg now details what he received from unspecified sources. Samsung should develop this device for years under the code name "Winner". The prototypes are always two versions of the conversation, one with the horizontal, the other with the foldable display vertically. Currently, designers have favored the device, which works in portrait mode, because it is better to hold it with one hand, although the unfolded display may seem narrower.
The screen should be similar, but more fluid than folding cell phones, such as the Motorola Razr, writes "Bloomberg". Developers worry more about the screen coating, which looks more like the surface of photographic prints than by the glbad.
The prototype weighs more than 200 grams of information because its screens are larger than any smartphone on the market. Samsung may need to reduce the size of the battery to reduce its weight.
Still not suitable for mbad production
As can be expected, the hinge is the most important element of the foldable smartphone. During testing, he survived more than 200,000 folding movements. But it is not known if, in mbad production, the rejection rate can remain to a tolerable extent, since very different problems could arise here than with a prototype.
In addition, with the operating system, many issues remain unresolved. Samsung is working with Google on a custom Android version for the device. But everything depends on the final decision on the folded vertical or horizontal variant.
So it does not seem that Samsung will have a finished product at its development conference. According to "Bloomberg" sources, Samsung is not expected to release a mbad-produced device until the second quarter of 2019.
Samsung must score
This is probably not the problem as of November. Samsung must be a sensation after the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9 smartphones, rather modest, said a financial services badyst. A collapsible smartphone would probably not be a best-seller at first, but Samsung could make a sign of it.
South Koreans must also hurry because the big competitors are also working on foldable smartphones. Among other things, rivals LG and Huawei have announced such devices for next year. And one The patent application states that Apple has also developed a foldable iPhone.
