Apple and Samsung are expected to launch new smartwatches in 2018. Already in advance, many have fled to both watches. What Galaxy Watch and the Apple Watch Series 4 should be, you can read here.

Show instead of dial and processor instead of clockwork: Smartwatches have long established themselves as competitors for clbadic wristwatches. The best example is Apple. According to Statista, Apple alone sold more Smarwatches in the fourth quarter of 2017 as established Swiss manufacturers brought clocks to the man or arms. Surprisingly, it is not there that we speculate on new models for the month of September 2018. And also the competition does not sleep, on the contrary: Samsung must present to the Galaxy watch even before Apple a new clock.

Two sizes, different shapes

According to reports, both manufacturers have to launch their watches in two sizes. At least with Apple's registered in the program because the Apple Watch is already available since the first version with a 38-millimeter screen and a 42-millimeter screen. This could be the end of the 4-series. According to Bloomberg, new watches are expected to hit the market with a bigger screen. Designer Benjamin Geskin reflected on this in advance and shared these thoughts on Twitter.

Samsung changes a little more. One of the biggest novelties will probably be a small screen. For example, in 2016, the Gear S3 also came in a dual pack, but with identical screens. This year there will be a big and a small smartwatch. The records from a certification authority indicate that the smallest model will appear with a 1.2-inch display. The larger version will measure 1.3 inches.

In addition, Samsung will probably miss the devices a new name. All the smartwatches that South Koreans have sold in recent years were part of the Gear series. By 2018, the Gear S4 would have been settled. But: The name should be finished, Gear should be the Galaxy watch. With the new name, the new watches would fit at least better with the smartphones of the manufacturer. The form factor will remain the same: Since the Gear S2 from 2015, Samsung watches come with a circular touch screen on the market.

The operation: bezel against "Taptic Engine"

The most famous brand of Samsung watches But it is the rotating bezel around the dial that allows users to easily navigate through the menus. There were always two buttons on the right side in recent years. One acts as a back button, the other brings users to the main menu. That Samsung separates from the successful concept seems excluded. Internally, the 2017 Gear Sport already has everything you need: GPS for sports tracking and a processor that allows smooth operation. This should also be the case with the new edition.

Apple should change some of the familiar controls. The button on the side and the iconic digital crown are preserved, but are "fixed" installed. This means that you can not press the buttons properly, but you get a haptic signal. That's what the engine says Taptic should provide. This is for example in the home button of the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus or current MacBook Pros trackpad. For example, if you press the home button on an iPhone, the vibrations of an electric motor give the impression that you really pushed the button. In addition, Apple should equip the clock with a new processor. GPS and an option on LTE are mandatory because Apple Watch Series 3 also has both on board

Wear OS or Tizen as the operating system?

It will be interesting to see what Samsung operating system will install on their watch. In recent years, the manufacturer has delivered Gear watches with Tizen's internal development. In the meantime, the Google Wear operating system was also considered as a possible operating system in 2018. But Google probably only has external chances. Tizen has finally convinced in recent years by a simple and innovative operation. And although the "Samsung Galaxy Apps" store does not produce many useful apps, you can still install Spotify on the clock and listen to offline playlists as a premium subscriber.

At Apple, the direction is clear: Already in the In June 2018, the manufacturer has viewed its watchOS 5 monitoring system, which will include new features. For example, Apple Watch operators can communicate with other Apple Watch owners via walkie-talkie. In addition, the Siri personal badistant has been improved and the training application has been expanded to include more sports activities. The update will be released in the autumn of 2018.

When will new watches arrive?

Apple will launch a new Apple Watch, which will likely be presented with new iPhone models in 2018 as well as a few weeks later. Samsung looks a little different. In recent years, South Koreans have regularly shown new watches at IFA. This could be over in 2018. Instead, the Galaxy watch will be presented with the Galaxy Note 9am on August 9th. This seems reasonable given the competition. That it really happens, but remains to be seen. That's going to be the Galaxy Watch, but seems safe. Samsung accidentally announced the watch on its own website too early.

Incidentally, the Galaxy Watch and the Apple Watch Series 4 are not the only smartwatches to feature in the coming weeks. Several companies will present new watches at IFA. In addition to LG, these include traditional watch manufacturers Casio and Fossil.
