THQ Nordic hits Giebelstadt in Franconia and takes over HandyGames
As reported by Gameswirtschaft.de, THQ Nordic takes over HandyGames from Giebelstadt near Würzburg. The purchase price is one million euros in cash. If the business grows well, an additional 1.5 million euros could be added. HandyGames has existed since the year 2000, when it was founded by the founders and brothers Christopher and Markus Kbadulke. This makes the company one of the oldest development studios in the German speaking countries.
Currently, the 60 employees of HandyGames are completely taken over by THQ Nordic. The publisher also holds the trademark rights of the Franks. From now on, HandyGames will act as a publisher for small and medium-sized developers and will benefit from new synergies.
Strategic Stage in the Virtual Reality Industry
THQ Nordic now enters the VR game business with this acquisition. After HandyGames initially developed only for smartphones and mobile phones, the studio now also supports consoles, such as the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 and VR glbades, such as HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. HandyGames won the award for best game for its VR game TownsMen VR in the German Computer Game Award 2018.

THQ General Manager Nordic Klemens Kreuzer explains: "With HandyGames, THQ Nordic enters the VR segment and accesses one of the most experienced mobile sales hubs. Games in Europe.
This makes HandyGames the third company that incorporates THQ Nordic in a short time. Previously, the publisher had already taken over Black Forest Games and Koch Media. The company did not raise any additional capital until June, when it issued shares worth EUR 142 million.
After swallowing Koch Media early 2018, including Deep Silver (publisher of the Metro and Saints Row games), in the first quarter of 2018, THQ Nordic recorded an increase in its net sales of 673% year-over-year. At this moment, Swedes seem to be doing a lot of things.
