The short message service fights against propaganda and false news

(1965: 00004) Düsseldorf Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey defends himself outside experts in the fight against false news: Together with researchers from Leiden University in the Netherlands, the company intends to badyze the direction in which public discourse is developing in the short message service.

Metrics should be used to recognize the extent to which users identify with certain points of view on Twitter. Other measures should make hate speech and racism recognizable to Twitter. With scientists from the University of Oxford and the University of Amsterdam, Twitter also wants to explore how users actually use the service.

Twitter, Facebook and other social networks are under increasing pressure: they are accused of being too lax about propaganda and false news, and promoting political polarization by allowing discussions in which members have a unilateral vision.

Already in March, Dorsey criticized herself and complained of a harsh tone in tweets. He asked the public for suggestions on how to measure and improve the quality of Twitter discussions. The short message service has since received more than 230 suggestions

Meanwhile, the US company has also taken action in the fight against false news and propaganda: for example, Twitter has reduced barriers for users to report tweets and offensive accounts. And social network algorithms now identify more than nine million potential fake accounts each week.

This will continue, announced the company in the presentation of its quarterly figures. In addition, the planned measures should also play their role.

Things did not go well with investors: After the release of the quarterly report, the price of Twitter action fell by 20% to its lowest level in four years. Dorsey has not yet convinced shareholders of his new course
