"It's here": the American artist Louise Lawler, whose work has been gathered by the Sammlung Verbund since 2004. Starting tomorrow, Thursday, the vertical gallery Am Hof ​​will propose 27 works of several decades, no only photographs, but also "tracings", in which the artist, aged 71, will submit the previous works to a rejuvenation of the drawing.

"Lawler's photographs clearly show that our perception of a work of art is always influenced by its spatial and institutional environment," said Gabriele Schor, head of collections, Wednesday morning at a conference Press. If one walks through the eight-story Verbund-Stiegenhaus show, one inevitably follows the artist's gaze: she photographs foreign works of art in museums, private residences, auction houses or depots, while placing their context in the center.

The first work purchased by the Sammlung Verbund in 2004 is called "dismantling": instead of the work, which was hanging on the wall, only the two hooks are visible. "But the staging and the aura of light are still there," says Schor. A painting by Gerhard Richter leaning against the wall was also photographed by Lawler. The book is entitled "Wall Pillow", based on the white glove located between the painting and the wall. The amount of art depends on the context, as well as the illustrious "Bulbs", in which the bulbs seem unimportant with the packaging material on a table. The photo implicitly indicates that it is a work of Felix Gonzalez-Torres, who only deploys his power when it is illuminated by the ceiling (as was the case recently in the Theseus Temple of the Volksgarten Vienna).

In addition to these photos, which have made Lawler in the US a star, but also new works from the group of works called "Trace": The works drawn by a friend are graphic implementations of previous photos, the owners of the size of the wall adapted to be printed. "Adjusted to fit" is also the work of Lawler's "Distorded" series, in which she also uses previous work that she alienates on PC. With her works, she wants to deepen the issue of creating a sense in the art sector, according to the artist at the press conference. She is also concerned about getting in the background as an artist. "I did not want to become one of those isolated stars," she says, trying to put no pictures of her in circulation.
