For Mercedes and Hamilton, it was the next disappointment after the double technical failure of Austria a week ago. The 33-year-old Briton, after four straight home wins, is badured the best starting position in qualifying on Saturday and was on the verge of becoming the only record-breaking winner at Silverstone.
Vettel, who was suffering from neck pain, narrowly missed pole position and showed the strength of his Ferrari at the start. With a blistering reaction, the German immediately left his World Cup rival behind him and took over even before the first corner.
