The Viennese filmmaker Umut Dag received Sunday night the German director award "Metropolis" in the category "Best TV Movie". Dag was awarded the ARD "Das deutsche Kind" film award, which talks about a girl who was raised after the death of her mother by adoptive Muslim parents.

Wolfgang Fischer has been honored as Best Feature Director for "Styx". He is very happy, said Fischer in the evening. Filming the drama on a damaged and overcrowded refugee boat was a "physical and mental act of strength". For the eighth time, the German Association of Directors (BVR) has awarded the prize in various categories in Munich.

In the series category, director Christian Schwochow has been awarded for the "Bad Banks" series. The prize for the children's film was won by Joya Thome for "Queen of Niendorf". For their documentary "The Cleaners", Moritz Riesewieck and Hans Block were awarded the BVR. Susan Gordanshekan has been named Best New Director for The Broken Cat.

At the University of Television and Film Gala, director Margarethe von Trotta received the honorary award for the work of her life. "It makes me very happy," said the filmmaker. It was something special to be honored by colleagues. The prize, worth 20,000 euros, was awarded for the first time to a woman.
