Whe has a scar, especially has something to say: when a big jump from the skateboard crashed, during a short straw beat, he danced too wildly at the last party: after all, it is not just pastures or bruises. "Scars are created after such deep wounds that the restoration of the skin is not possible with the normal structure of the individual layers, but a replacement connective tissue having properties different from those of normal skin", said Alexander Nast of the Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Allergy. to the Charity of Berlin. "The other structure of this tissue leads to the visibility of the scar."
Healing the scar takes time
Initially, a scar is usually swollen and slightly red. It may take three years for her to mature and make her last appearance. In the best case, it is barely noticeable afterwards. However, some wounds remain slightly red, curved and sublime. The so-called hypertrophic scars sometimes itch. Regular mbadages with creams or gels can help make the fabric softer, more elastic and therefore flatter. A painful variant of the scars are the keloids. Younger skins, in particular, often tend to produce excessive scarring, in which scar tissue continues to develop after wound healing and does not regress spontaneously. The darker areas of the skin on the ears, shoulders and chest are particularly affected. Although keloids can still be treated retrospectively. "However, creams are usually not enough for that," says Nast. Instead, the doctor usually uses cortisone in the proliferation of scars, which is injected into the scar. In addition, the scar can be frosted with liquid nitrogen.
Wetterfühlig?
Why are some scars, for example after cesarean section or other operations, still causing problems years later, hardly explored? "When time changes, many parameters change, which we perceive more or less consciously," explains Alexander Nast. The temperature, the atmospheric pressure and the humidity influence the body. "These factors are also reflected in the perception of scars." For extremely painful scars, victims may use painkillers. "Otherwise, the treatment options are limited."
