Authorities are looking for suspect in the murder of a highway patrol boat in Findlay

FINDLAY, Ohio (WTVG) – An Ohio State Highway Patrol Soldier was shot dead on I-75 in Findlay around 11:05 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the OSHP, Robert Tramaine Hathorn was arrested for speeding on I-75 near the 160 mile post in Hancock County. The soldier asked Hathorn to get out of his vehicle, and it was at this point that a fight ensued between the suspect and the soldier, which resulted in the soldier being fired with his own service weapon. . Hathorn then fled.

The OSHP soldier was shot in the lower body during the fight and taken to Blanchard Valley hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The soldier has been identified as Josef Brobst.

The suspect’s vehicle was found behind a business on County Road 140 near Township Road 89, but Hathorn is still at large. He is described as a 42-year-old black male, 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing 225 pounds.

The soldier’s duty weapon was secured by OSHP. A statewide blue alert has been issued by Highway Patrol.
