Con Edison does not know why a significant part of the West Side of Manhattan has been without electricity for much of the night from Saturday to Friday.
In a statement released late Sunday morning, the electricity company said it "will conduct a diligent and vigorous investigation to determine the root cause of the incident," according to the daily. New York Post.
"Over the next few days and weeks, our engineers and planners will carefully review the performance of the data and equipment related to this event and share our findings with regulators and the public," the statement said.
The banalization of travelers stranded in subway trains forced the evacuation of Madison Square Garden and resulted in the cancellation of Broadway shows. The area without electricity has reached approximately 40,000 Con Edison customers and extends from West 30th Street to West 72nd Street, from the Hudson River to 5th Avenue.
The blackout marks 42 years to the day since the total blackout of 1977, which left millions of people in New York without electricity for nearly two days.
