HOUSTON (AP) – A 13-year-old girl, who died a few days after being involved in a fight while walking home, was killed by a brain tumor discovered during her hospitalization later.

The Harris Institute of Forensic Sciences announced Monday that Kashala Francis had died of a pilocytic astrocytoma, the brain tumor most prevalent in the child.

The autopsy did not mention any factor contributing to his death.

Kashala's mother said her daughter was hit in the head during the fight on April 18th. She was hospitalized three days later and died on April 24th.

Homicide investigators from the Houston police investigated Kashala's death.

Police spokesman Jodi Silva said the case would be referred to the division's main assault and domestic violence agency to determine whether charges related to the fight could be filed.
