With the Golden Globes almost here, Twitter erupted in shock and dismay on Friday that the ceremony’s founding organization, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, has no black members and hasn’t done so for 20 years.
After the weak recognition of the issue raised yesterday by the HFPA, the reality of the situation did not please Ava DuVernay, former Globe winner Sterling K. Brown, Judd Apatow, Shonda Rhimes, Lovecraft CountryJurnee Smollett, Patton Oswalt and dozens of others who have spoken on social media to express their displeasure, casting a major shadow on social media.
“A cosmetic solution is not enough,” Rhimes, Kerry Washington and Alyssa Milano tweeted as they and others posed their displeasure over the image of a cracked price and descriptions of the problem: “Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Not a single black member out of 87. “

The makeup of HFPA seems incredibly outdated given the growing attention to diversity in Hollywood and across the country, accelerated by protests this summer after the police murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.
“So many crazy things about the Golden Globes and the Hollywood Foreign Press, but it’s horrible,” Apatow said.
“What price HFPA?” Ellen Barkin asked.
