An Azure Active Directory issue causing authentication issues affects a subset of Microsoft customers around the world across many MIcrosoft services, including Office, Dynamics, Teams, Xbox Live, and the Azure portal. Customers started complaining around 3:15 p.m. ET on March 15 about their inability to use services running on Azure, and at 5:15 p.m. ET, the issue was still not resolved.
Currently, a message on the Azure Status page reads: “CURRENT STATUS: Engineering teams have identified a potential underlying cause and are exploring mitigation options. The next update will be provided in 60 minutes or if events warrant. ”
Since the admin portal is also running on Azure, a number of Twitter users complained that they could not get an update on the outage.
This is not the first time that an Azure Active Directory authentication problem has caused outages in many Microsoft services. At the end of September 2020, Microsoft had several Azure AD authentication issues affecting many of its services.
Update (5:20 p.m. ET): It looks like Microsoft is rolling out a fix. From the State of Azure page: “CURRENT STATE: Engineering teams are deploying mitigation measures around the world. Customers should start to see recovery at this point, with full mitigation expected within 60 minutes. ”
This is a developing story. More soon.
