ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) – The North Carolina authorities claim that the allegation that a 7-week-old baby was abducted was found to be groundless and that the mother was charged with attempted murder after the infant's discovery at the bottom from a ravine.
Henderson County Sheriff Lowell Griffin announced Friday that Krista Noelle Madden, 35, is now in jail for first degree murder.
The sheriff said deputies had met Madden on a nearby rural road Thursday night, and that she had initially claimed that she had escaped from the kidnappers who had taken her baby.
Griffin said that a woman later called 911 with good news. She heard the infant's faint cries and sent her husband up a ravine to retrieve it. His car seat was found nearby.
