Turtle Rock Studios’ Back 4 Blood Monday ends its early access preview – an open beta will follow on August 12 – which gave players a preview of the studio’s successor to Left 4 Dead. As part of this early access overview, Back 4 Blood Players have learned something new about co-op zombie shooter: The game will not feature a campaign mode against, like previous Left 4 Dead games.
The campaign against was one of the multiplayer foundations of Left 4 Dead, so its exclusion from Back 4 Blood is surprising and, for many potential players, disappointing. In versus campaign mode, two teams of four players (one side as Survivors, one side as Specially Infected Zombies) play through the levels of the Left 4 Dead Campaign trying to survive or prevent the Survivors from falling. reach the safe rooms. But Turtle Rock confirmed in an Early Access FAQ on its official Discord that it “has no plans to have a campaign against the mode. [in Back 4 Blood] right now. ”Instead, the competitive multiplayer in Back 4 Blood will feature Swarm Mode, an eight-player PvP mode closer to Left 4 Dead’s Survival mode.
Asked on Discord why the studio decided not to include the anti-fashion campaign, Chris Ashton, co-founder and design director of Turtle Rock, explained, “We have a lot of defensive gear and our specials are good. for ambushes. Defending has worked much better for our game than running from AB. In other words, it seems that all the added complexity of Back 4 Blood, in the form of equipable cards and a long list of Special Infected (aka Ridden), may be to blame.
Turtle Rock executive producer Lianne Papp called Swarm a “snackable” multiplayer game mode, with matches lasting between five and 15 minutes. It’s certainly a lower time commitment than the campaign versus the Left 4 Dead mode, where matches can last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.
Back 4 Blood is slated for release on October 12 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. If Left 4 Dead fans can’t find their way, they can wait for the next co-op shooters like Aliens: Fireteam Elite, The Anacrouse, rainbow six Extraction, and Red drop.
