Reggaeton superstar Bad Bunny has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, his rep said on Monday.
The announcement came a day after the musician won the prize of the Latin favorite male artist and favorite album Latin for “YHLQMDLG” the American Music Awards.
Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Martínez Ocasio, was scheduled to sing his hit “Dákiti” with Jhay Cortez at the event but canceled without explanation, leaving many fans disappointed. The singer, however, remotely handed the award for Favorite Latin Female Artist.
Journalist Sujeylee Solá told The Associated Press that Bad Bunny was not showing any major symptoms on Monday. She did not provide further details, saying only that the musician was not granting any interviews.
Last week, the singer won Best Reggaeton Performance for “Yo Perreo Sola” at the Latin Grammys on Thursday. He also won the artist and composer of the year award in October at the Billboard Latin Music Awards. His album, “X 100PRE”, a literal and numbered play that reads forever in Spanish, also received the award for best Latin album. Released last year on Christmas Eve, the artist dedicated the album to “all my true fans!” Those who follow me from the bottom of my heart. Those who believe in me and what I do! For people who are sure of themselves!
He also surprised fans with live concerts. Bad Bunny broadcast a live concert in New York City in September while atop a flatbed truck. Stopping outside Harlem Hospital, the reggaeton singer paid tribute to healthcare workers and thanked them for their sacrifices during the coronavirus pandemic.
“I want to thank for so much love and support, respect and thanks to all the people who have sacrificed their lives, giving everything for the well-being of this city,” he said in Spanish .
