Harris, 28, had previously been identified by Virginia Beach police as one of two people killed in one of three separate shootings. Harris was a bystander at the scene of a shooting in the 300 block of 19th Street, police said.
At least four people remained hospitalized at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital on Sunday following the shooting, a spokesperson for Sentara Healthplans told CNN. It was possible that two of these patients would be released later in the afternoon.
The first shooting – unrelated to the two that claimed Lynch and Harris’ lives – appears to have stemmed from a brawl between a group of people on Atlantic Avenue, police said on Saturday.
Three men identified as Ahmon Adams, 22, Devon Dorsey Jr., 20, and Nyquez Baker, 18, were arrested in connection with the shooting. Each faces a range of charges, police said, including seven counts of criminal assault, use of a firearm in the commission of a crime and reckless handling of a firearm.
CNN has not been able to determine whether they are represented by attorneys who would comment on their behalf. CNN has contacted the police, the sheriff’s office and the prosecutor’s office for more information.
The officer who shot the man did not have a body camera
Police said officers were responding to the first incident when they heard more gunshots nearby and found Harris shot dead. She died at the scene, police said.
Meanwhile, a nearby Virginia Beach police officer “encountered an armed citizen, which led to the police firing.” A man, later identified as Lynch, died at the scene, police said.
“A father’s dream son! Smart, handsome, scholar, athlete, entrepreneur and loved by everyone he came in contact with,” Lynch’s father Wayne Lynch said in a statement to the local news station WAVY. “Rest in peace Don!”
An attorney for Lynch’s family told CNN the family were “in mourning” and described Lynch as a “standing guy.”
The family were not giving interviews, the lawyer said, although they may speak to the media in the coming days. But for now, “because of the shock, they just need to breathe out,” the attorney said.
The attorney told CNN that police contacted the family, but he would not qualify the communication in any way.
The officer who shot Lynch had not turned on his body camera, Police Chief Neudigate told a press conference on Saturday night. Police did not identify the officer.
“I don’t have the answers the community is looking for at the moment in regards to this death,” Neudigate said. At the time, he said the officer had yet to be interviewed by investigators.
The chief rebuffed reports that Lynch was unarmed, saying a gun was “recovered near where this incident took place.”
CNN’s Brian Todd, Chris Boyette, Andy Rose, and Alaa Elassar contributed to this report.
