Baker Mayfield joined the long list of enemies of Daniel Jones.
The Browns 'quarterback overturned the Giants' decision to take Jones with No. 6 pick in the NFL draft in a recent interview with GQ. Mayfield's source of contention is that Jones rose to 17-19 as a starter for three years for Duke.
"Some people think about it too much," Mayfield told the magazine in a feature film. "This is where people go wrong. They forget that you have to win.
Mayfield is certainly not alone. Many questioned the Giants' decision to take Jones over Dwayne Haskins (13-1 in his first season as an Ohio State star), or why General Manager Dave Gettleman did not wait for the number-one selection. 17 if he was determined to seize Jones.
"I can not believe the Giants took Daniel Jones," said Mayfield, who was motivated to make comments by a segment of "SportsCenter" on Jones.
The interview may have taken place earlier this summer, before Jones made two impressive pre-season performances with the Giants, completing 16 passes in 19 for 228 yards and two touchdowns. Two pre-season wins may not be enough to change Mayfield's opinion.
"Either you have the habit of winning and being that guy for your team, or you are not," said Mayfield, who scored 7-7. last year after taking over the Browns post in the week 3 win over the Jets.
