Baker Mayfield of Cleveland Browns takes an unjustified blow against New York Giants Daniel Jones

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield is one of the NFL's most electrifying players and is poised to make his mark after a historic rookie season.

Although Mayfield set the record for most touchdowns by a rookie quarterback, he only won six games while Cleveland went 7-8-1. The team has once again missed the playoffs – it has not played any significant games since the 2002 season.

The Oklahoma Sooners product made an attempt against the New York Giants and rookie quarterback Daniel Jones in an interview with GQ released Tuesday. He spoke with the magazine when a segment of the "Sportscenter" showed the giants.

"I can not believe the Giants took Daniel Jones," said an expert on the quarterback about New York's decision to take Jones with No. 6 pick in the NFL draft. "M & # 39; showing off."

When told that there was no exact science on how to predict which quarterback would be good in the NFL and what was not, Mayfield replied, "Some people think it too much. It's where people go wrong. They forget that you have to win.

Jones has not won any national championships at the University nor a Heisman Trophy. However, Jones has received praise for both appearances in pre-season games so far this season. He has 228 yards passing and two touchdowns to go with two fumbles.

He was the unlikely choice, but the Giants' office insisted on their willingness to wait for Jones before taking over from Eli Manning.

While Mayfield notes "you have to win," some of the championship winning quarterbacks that the Giants have had at the university have not gained much at the national championship level.

Manning spent four years at Ole Miss and won two games down. Later, he led the Giants to two Super Bowl wins – both against the New England Patriots.

Phil Simms, who the Giants selected with the No. 7 NFL draft pick of 1979, played at Morehead State and failed the playoffs during his university career. He helped the Giants win the Super Bowl in the 1986 season and led the team to the playoffs in 1990 before being injured.

Jeff Hostetler was selected by the Giants in the third round of the 1984 NFL Draft. He was not spectacular when he was playing for Penn State and had only won a bowl after moving to West Virginia. After Simms got injured in the 1990 season, he took over and led them to a Super Bowl XXV win.

Jones has not played an NFL game yet.
