Baltimore candidate Kim Klacik warns Dems of black support: ‘We’ve been ignoring too long’

Kim Klacik, a GOP congressional candidate who suggested Democrats don’t care about black voters in a viral campaign ad, targeted Joe Biden in a speech on the first night of the Republican National Convention, accusing the Democratic candidate to believe that black Americans “cannot think for ourselves”.

“Joe Biden thinks we can’t think for ourselves – that the color of someone’s skin dictates their political views,” she said in her remarks. “We no longer buy lies – you and your party have ignored us for too long.”

Klacik, who is black, is the Republican nominee who will represent the 7th Congressional District of Maryland, a Democratic stronghold represented for years by the late Republican Elijah Cummings.

Black voters as a whole helped Biden win the Democratic nomination after a decisive victory in the South Carolina primary. But that success depends on his support among older black voters.

The former vice president’s controversial comments about race also threatened to erode that support; in a recent interview at the National Association of Black Journalists and National Association of Hispanic Journalists convention, Biden compared black and Hispanic populations in the United States.

“Unlike the African American community, with a few notable exceptions, the Latin American community is an incredibly diverse community with incredibly different attitudes about different things,” he said in the interview. The American community is a monolith. “)

Klacik gained national notoriety last week when President Trump shared one of his campaign ads, which shows her walking past abandoned townhouses in a red dress and matching stilettos, lambasting Democratic politicians for having abandoned black Americans.

“Black people don’t have to vote Democrats,” she said at the end of the 2.5-minute video. Baltimore’s population is about 60% black, according to the Census Bureau.

The ad, titled “Black Lives Don’t Matter to Democrats,” has been viewed over 11.4 million times.

Klacik touched on the same theme again Monday in his remarks, accusing Democrats of running Baltimore – and other major cities across the country – “in the ground” despite high taxes.

“And yet Democrats always assume black people will vote for them no matter how much they let us down and take us for granted,” she continued. “No. We are fed up with it and won’t take it anymore. The days of blind support for Democrats are coming to an end.”
