Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson tests positive for coronavirus

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has tested positive for coronavirus.

A person with knowledge of the situation confirmed Jackson’s positive COVID-19 test to USA TODAY Sports’ Mike Jones. The person spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the issue.

NFL Network was the first to report the positive test.

The Ravens reported additional positive tests earlier Thursday, the day their undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers game was originally scheduled to be played. The contest was rescheduled to Sunday at 1:15 p.m. ET on NBC. All signs point to Robert Griffin III’s reinforcement starting behind center with Jackson absent.

Lamar Jackson had pitched for 1,948 yards, 15 touchdowns and 6 INTs in 10 games this season.

Griffin took to Twitter Thursday night to express his support for his teammates and say that “this epidemic within the team is bigger than football.”

The team disciplined strength and conditioning trainer Steve Saunders on Wednesday for not reporting symptoms of the coronavirus and always wearing his mask or tracking device inside the facility. The team did not name Saunders, although The Athletic reported that it was Saunders. Earlier this week, Ravens running backs JK Dobbins and Mark Ingram tested positive for COVID-19.

The Ravens are currently facing an epidemic, testing positive for four consecutive days. The Ravens have already placed a total of nine players on the COVID-19 / reserve roster this week, and several staff members have also tested positive.

Due to the outbreak, the Ravens will be banned at least until Monday, coach John Harbaugh confirmed to ESPN on Thursday night. They will have to complete their preparations for Pittsburgh remotely or at another location.

If Sunday’s game is over, then they have a quick turnaround for Thursday’s home game against the Cowboys.
