Bama trolls Bo Nix for Mac Jones’ “ Game Manager ” label

Nothing is ever forgotten in the rivalry between Auburn and Alabama. Last week, the Tigers quarterback Bo Nix tagged quarterback Crimson Tide Mac Jones as a game manager, and Alabama wasn’t just going to let this slide.

“He’s doing a great job managing the game, getting the ball around to his players,” Nix said of Jones last week. “Obviously he’s got a great backer, great offensive line, great receivers. It helps a lot. But he handles the job well, takes the completions and knows what to do with the ball.

Jones didn’t look much like a game manager during Alabama’s resounding victory over Auburn, 42-13, on Saturday afternoon. Jones finished the game with 302 passing yards and five touchdowns. Meanwhile, Nix ended his day with 227 passing yards and a pair of interceptions. On Monday, the official Alabama Football Twitter account posted a graphic of Jones (with Nix in the background) that read “Manager Material.”

After his team’s victory on Saturday, Crimson Tide wide receiver Devonta Smith admitted he and his teammates saw Nix’s remarks ahead of the game. Smith said he was okay with letting the others talk and letting Alabama do the execution on the football field.

“It was just funny to see that,” Smith said after the rivalry game. “But I mean, at the end of the day people are going to talk, they are going to do whatever they want. At the end of the day, we’re just going to show up, execute the game plan, and do whatever we need to do.

In eight games during the 2020 season, Jones has now completed 76.2% of his passes for 2,728 yards, 23 touchdowns and three interceptions.
