Bandai Namco has a new logo that looks like Twitch’s

Bandai Namco plays with its brand image again. Don’t worry, it’s not Namco Bandai. No, it simply gives up its logo (Orange 021 C and the good old Process yellow making a rich Pantone 185 C) in favor of an innocuous wordmark.

In a statement, the company said the outgoing logo “expresses the merger of Bandai and Namco which was created when the two companies integrated,” but not necessarily in that order, in 2006. “It will be replaced by a new logo that reflects our new Purpose.

Sooooo… what is this new goal? If you had “Fun for Everyone in the Future” on your bingo card, come to the counter for your prize. “Bandai Namco exists to share dreams, fun and inspiration with people around the world,” the company said in the same statement.

“By connecting people and companies to enjoy unique and entertaining products and services, we are working to create a better future for everyone,” said the Purpose. It puts a lot on Goku’s shoulders, but he’ll be okay with it.

So anyway, it’s now Bandai Namco inside a word balloon, taking effect in April 2022. On that note, Bandai Namco says the balloon is a tribute to “the manga culture of Japan which has become so popular everywhere ”. And Bandai Namco is a big part of that culture, with Dragon Ball, Gundam, Naruto, and several other anime and manga franchises in its stable.

Still, some fans seem not to dig it. Kotaku pointed out on Friday morning that users of 2ch, Japan’s largest bulletin board, were casting shadows on Bandai Namco’s new look:

“Looks like the Twitch logo,” said one (speaking for me too). “And the orange logo was so pretty,” said another. And, speaking for most of us, “It’s okay. I don’t really care about the logos.
