A handful of the year’s biggest tracks, including Eilish’s “My Future” and Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage” remix featuring Beyoncé, made the cut, as did Khalid and the hit “Know Your Worth” by Disclosure.
And some real throwbacks, including “These Arms of Mine” by Otis Redding, “Could You Be Loved” by Bob Marley and The Wailers and “Liberation” by Outkast in 1998, also featured in the eclectic mix.
“Over the past few months, I’ve spent a lot of time listening to music with my family,” Obama wrote posting the playlist.
“As always, it’s a mix of genres that crosses different eras. I think there is something here for everyone – I hope you enjoy it.”
“WOOOOW !!!!! thank you very much !!!!!” Khalid wrote on Twitter, leading a number of featured artists who responded with joy and surprise to their inclusion.
“Wow, my president is playing my music !!!!” added Teyana Taylor, whose track “Made It” was included. John Legend wrote, “Thank you, Mr. President,” while Maggie Rogers said, “LOVED YOU (and Michelle) FOR A VERY LONG TIME.”
Childish Gambino, Frank Ocean and Anderson .Paak were included in the mix alongside legends from previous generations – including Nina Simone, Bob Dylan and Stevie Wonder.
A few of the featured artists are also on view at the ongoing Democratic convention, where Obama’s wife Michelle gave a moving speech Monday night condemning current President Donald Trump and placing challenger Joe Biden.
Obama’s playlist was posted online the same evening as his wife’s speech, and the former president is also expected to speak later in the four-day event.
