“And by the way, they will feel good about your leadership because they will see that you are invested in their success,” Obama told Curry.
Another mistake Obama said that a lot of people make is that they think good leaders are born this way. But in reality, “leadership is, like anything else, a skill. And there are a bunch of different ways of doing it,” he said.
Obama himself was not always “perfect” to be a leader, he said. But over the years, he’s learned that the best thing to do as a leader is to “set the tone in terms of team culture.”
“Whether the team is a basketball team, a company or an administration. What are the values in which you organize yourself? … Being clear about your values as an organization is part of leadership”, did he declare.
Obama said the reason he wrote his new memoir, “A Promised Land,” was to encourage more people to take on leadership roles, especially in government.
