Barry Sanders took to Twitter to distance himself from Eastern Market Brewing Co.’s use of his likeness on the cover of their short story “Same Old Lager.”

The legendary Detroit Lions running back said his legal team was already shutting things down, with “an apology to all the fans who were duped.” See below for his full tweet:

A request for comment from the brewery was not immediately returned to early Monday afternoon. This message will be updated if / when this changes.

Eastern Market Brewery Co. announced the release of “Same Old Lager” in a Facebook post, which is currently missing at the time of writing. The image that draws Sanders’ anger is the one pictured in the embedded tweet above. The Detroit Free Press reports that the beer was announced shortly after the team’s 20-0 loss to Carolina on Sunday. He aimed not to set expectations too high while “thinking that ‘the next beer will be beer’.” Some ironic and clever jabs in the Lions fandom, no doubt.
