The last time we registered on the Nationals pitcher, Hunter Strickland, he was sending himself to the wounded list for two months after hitting a wall. His most recent injury is equally bizarre: even though it was not so stupid in itself, Strickland was hit in the face by a barbell in the weight room and broke his nose.
By a Washington Post According to one report, Strickland's injury went public a few hours before the first pitch, when he walked around the pavilion of the visiting team, looking like a crying mother:
Strickland was seen at the club house around 4 pm, the bandaged nose and the right side of the face clearly red. His eyes were a little wet when he went to meet Chief Sports Coach Paul Lessard. They soon went to X-rays at the nearby doctor's office and soon after Strickland went to Instagram.
He of course went on Instagram, posting an update soon after on the incident with the bar:
Strickland was always ready for the match, but he did not throw: Nationals manager Dave Martinez explained that the abnormal injury had nothing to do with it, preferring the confrontation between Wander Suero and Daniel Hudson.
Although it was probably a good idea not to put a player who took a heavy weight in the face, Suero and Hudson allied to give four points in the bottom of the eighth, giving the Pirates a 4-1 win. It may be the responsibility of the Nationals to lock Strickland into bubble wrap when it comes out of the mound, as they need all the help they need to play in the playoffs.
