SIDNEY, Neb. (AP) – Bass Pro Shops intends to close the Cabela distribution center in Sidney, thereby removing more jobs in western Nebraska.
Bass Pro Shops said Thursday that the closure "is underway following a thorough review of all the activities of Bass Pro Shops and Cabela, including an independent analysis by logistics experts. and global transportation companies ". The analysis showed that Sidney's 77-year-old facilities handled less volume than all of its other distribution centers.
The Cabela Goods Return Center in Oshkosh is also being closed.
The closure of the Sidney Center will result in the loss of 121 jobs, while 41 jobs will be lost at the Oshkosh facility.
Prior to buying the business from Bass Pro Shops, based in Springfield, Missouri, about 2,000 people previously worked in Cabela. The transaction was finalized in September 2017.
