The Indiana legislature legalized low-THC CBD oil in March 2018. What does this mean?

A stand sold dog treats infused with CBD. Another was selling CBD-infused beard oil. Lip balm. Ice cream. Botanical. Bath salts.

They were among dozens of vendors at the East Indianapolis Marriott selling CBD oil or infused cousin cannabis products. Those who sell CBD products to the CBD highlighted the health benefits of the substance, but some scientists wonder if it does what many people think.

CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of many compounds found in the sativa cannabis plant. It is extracted from the variety of hemp, which contains little or no THC, the psychoactive compound that produces the "high" altering spirit associated with marijuana.

What we know: CBD oil and its legal use in Indiana

Although exhibiting no psychoactive characteristics, exhibitors at the show claimed that CBD could have other health benefits. They can relieve headaches and other aches, help you sleep, reduce seizures, fight bacteria and relax, they said.

The products presented at the CBD Midwest exhibition provided participants with several methods for integrating CAD into their systems. Here is an overview of the most unique products on display.

Food infused with CBD

Whether you prefer sweet or savory food, there were many appetizing ways to get your solution to the CBD. Choices include: CBD ice cream, gum candies, nuts, popcorn, chocolates, teas, coffee and honey sticks.

As for how you want to ingest CBD oil, it's all about choice, "said Karen Klaus of Green Balance, based in northwestern Indiana. Taking it as food, as opposed to drops under the tongue, has no health benefits, she said, but added that it may take longer to feel the effects of food products.

Pet products infused with CBD

Exhibitors claimed that your furry friends could also enjoy the CBD. Treats, bones and even water infused with CBD attracted the attention of many participants.

Since dogs, like humans, have an endocannabinoid system, they can use the physical and mental benefits of CBD oil, Klaus said. It can relieve pain, reduce anxiety and help manage their seizures, says Green Balance.

It would be difficult to give too much CBD oil to your pet, said Klaus.

"The worst side effect might be a lethargy, but you would have to take a lot of oil to feel that," she said.

The American Kennel Club states that there is no definitive scientific data on how CBD oil affects dogs.

CBD flower

It looks and smells like marijuana, but it's not. The CBD flower, also known as hemp flower, can be smoked, sprayed or used to make jams or tea bags. But its THC content is low, that is the substance in marijuana that makes people go up.

It's legal in Indiana, but he could actually get you arrested. Indeed, the CBD flower can be considered positive for marijuana in field tests conducted by the police. Drug sniffer dogs can also identify the CBD flower as marijuana.

"If it smells and looks like marijuana, a police officer will have a hard time differentiating between the two," said Julie Chambers, a lawyer and former deputy prosecutor for Marion County, at IndyStar. "If they discover what they believe to be marijuana, they will probably have a cause of arrest, which could lead you to jail."

Is CBD oil legal in Indiana?

Yes. It became legal in Indiana in March 2018, when Governor Eric Holcomb signed a measure legalizing low-THC cannabidiol oil in Indiana. The law allows anyone to buy, sell and own CBD oil, provided that it meets certain labeling requirements and does not contain more than 0. 3% THC.

It is illegal to have THC and metabolites in your system in Indiana.
