Battlefield 2042 appears to be delayed – reports

It seems likely that Battlefield 2042 won’t meet its October 22 release date. EA has yet to officially announce a plan change, but a number of insiders have claimed a delay will be announced before the end of the week.

GamesBeat reporter Jeff Grubb was the first to suggest another game would be delayed this week on Twitter. While Grubb didn’t specifically name Battlefield 2042 initially, he later confirmed that DICE’s shooter is indeed the game he was referring to on his Discord – as captured by @ Okami13.

Insider Tom Henderson also rang to say they heard similar news. However, it does not appear that the different parties are in agreement on the length of the delay. Some suggest the game has been pushed back to 2022, while Henderson expects the delay to delay it for just a few weeks, apparently pushing it to some point in November.

DICE and EA have been unusually quiet about Battlefield 2042 in recent weeks. Aside from the game’s initial reveal and subsequent announcement of the Battlefield portal, the developer was careful when it came to showing / talking about gameplay. We have yet to see a full multiplayer match, for example, or learn more about the remaining Specialists – just weeks after launch. This is unusual for a Battlefield launch.

The beta of the game, which is expected to roll out this month, also doesn’t have an official date or significant details. This lack of news has led many to worry about the state of development, and that’s part of why this delay – if it turns out to be true – won’t surprise most people.

In 2018, Battlefield 5 was pushed back to the end of November, a month after its release date initially announced in late October.

However, given that it is the middle of September, the official news – good or bad – shouldn’t be too far away.
