EA has confirmed that Battlefield 2042 will feature cross play, although not all platforms will be able to play with all others.
Crossplay has been confirmed in a new battlefield briefing, but EA has made it clear that there will be two groups of players, rather than a single mixed group:
- PC, Xbox Series X / S, PlayStation 5 (PC and console gamers can turn off cross play)
- Xbox One and PlayStation 4
The reasoning behind separating players boils down to the differences between the next gen and next gen versions of Battlefield 2042 – more modern platforms will see 128 player matches, while last gen consoles will only expand. to 64 players. We have also learned that the size of the cards will be different depending on the latest and next gen versions of the game.
EA has also confirmed that the game will feature cross progression and cross trade – any unlock or purchase made in any version of the game (including last gen to new gen) will appear in all other versions of the game.
The addition of cross play means EA is delaying the game’s technical play test, which was previously scheduled to take place in late July. Now confirmed for “later this summer,” the Tech Gaming Test will allow PC, Xbox Series S / X, and PS5 players to play together – you can register for the invite-only test by updating your EA Playtesting profile. It should be pointed out that this is not the open beta of the game, which has not yet received a release date.
Battlefield 2042 will be released on October 22 and will not include campaign or battle royale modes, but it will include huge matches, new modes, and huge environmental effects. We’ll learn more about EA Play Live on July 22.
