Battlefield 5The competitive 5v5 mode has been canceled, announced EA DICE. The studio said their ongoing efforts in quality assurance and new content delivery were more important.

In an article published Thursday on the Web site of Electronic Arts, senior producer Ryan McArthur said the game already has competitive game modes, suggesting that fighting on a much smaller scale than that of the Battlefield franchise are not so important to players, either.

"Do not create this mode has been a difficult decision, but it is vital for us to reach our goals faster in eliminating bugs and content," wrote McArthur. "We know that there is already a competitive gaming experience in our community and we are helping to create features to support these communities."

Battlefield 1 launched a 5-on-5 mode called Incursions that lasted from August 2017 to April of this year. DICE said in April that a 5v5 team conquest mode would be introduced in the fourth chapter of Battlefield 5The DLC calendar, launched in June. The next chapter, Awakening the Giant, will be out soon this fall.

McArthur noted that Chapter 4 "also introduces problems for the overall quality of the experience," which developers have been striving to solve since June. The next update will provide improvements to address these issues, add two infantry cards, and increase the maximum ranking of players from rank 50 to rank 500.

The problems posed by the launch of Chapter 4 have also upset certain types of play on the Al Sundan map, which is currently limited to Squad Conquest and Team Deathmatch modes. DICE hopes to have "this vast map of the desert" ready to use much larger modes with the 4.6 update scheduled for next month, but can not promise it for the moment. "We first want to make sure that the patch works properly to create problems elsewhere, which has been the case with some previous updates," said McArthur.

The 4.6 update will also bring the Conquest, Team Deathmatch, Breakthrough and Squad Conquest game types to the Operation Underground card. Rush will also be playable on the map but only for a limited time. "This is our new design of Operation Metro", a multiplayer map in the modern setting of Battlefield 3 and 4"And that's something we have a lot of fun playing internally," McArthur said.
