Esmail said on Twitter today that his show would not be a remake of the Ronald D. Moore series, now widely regarded by fans as being one of the biggest science fiction shows of all the time – "because why spoil with perfection?" will tell an original story in mythology:

This would seem to open the possibility that Esmail's mail Galactica could even be in the same continuity as that of Moore.
Deadline reports that Esmail is a big fan of the Moore version of the show and that both producers are in touch. Moore gave his blessing to Esmail who takes the franchise.
Glen A. Larson created the original series, who spent a season on ABC (1978-1979) before being rebooted as Galactica 1980 in 1980. Ronald D. Moore directed the modern remake, with a hit mini-series broadcast on SCI FI in 2003, followed by four seasons (2004-2009).
Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell were the stars of 2004 Battlestar Galactica.
It has been more than 10 years now since the series ceased broadcasting.
BSG broadcast on SCI FI alongside Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, as part of the "SCI FI Friday" programming block.
Syfy followed with the less successful spin-off Caprica (one season, 2009-2010), and the backdoor driver Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome (2012). Syfy chose not to take over a series in progress, but to broadcast the pilot as a TV movie.

Details and pricing for Peacock are yet to be announced, with ads and subscriptions supporting the service.
