Moments ago, ESPN Dallas’ Todd Archer revealed that the Chicago Bears have now filed for an interview with George Edwards for the same position.

Under the new league rules, neither the Dallas Cowboys nor the Indianapolis Colts can block the interview for their respective coaches. Rather, it is now a formality.

If George Edwards’s name sounded familiar to you, it’s because he was also interviewed for the Bears head coach job in 2018, so he’s more than familiar with Ryan Pace and the rest of the world. direction. Interestingly, he served as a DC for the Minnesota Vikings, where he supervised Jonathan Gannon while the latter was assistant coach of the DB.

Speaking more of Edwards’ career, his NFL coaching journey began with the Dallas Cowboys as a linebacker coach from 1998 to 2001. He was also with the Washington football team (2002- 03); Cleveland Browns (2004); Miami Dolphins (2005-09 and 2012-13); Buffalo Bills (2010-2011); and the Minnesota Vikings (2014-2019) before returning to the Cowboys as a primary defensive assistant.

Edwards brings with him a long history as a defensive coordinator. He was defensive coordinator with three different teams: Washington, Buffalo and Minnesota. Where he didn’t call the games for Minnesota – Mike Zimmer did – he was instrumental in preparing and coordinating one of the best defenses in the league between 2014 and 2019.
