Prince Harry isn’t the first royal to step down and later write a revealer.
His great-great-uncle, Edward, Duke of Windsor, produced a ghost-written biography titled “A King’s Story: The Memoirs of the Duke of Windsor” in 1951.

On Tuesday, People magazine reported that Edward’s memoir recalled his own upbringing, which led to him falling in love with the socialite and ultimately relinquishing the post of monarch.

“Given my character, my roving curiosity and my independence, my life seemed to form a disconnected pattern – duty without decision, service without responsibility, pomp without power,” wrote Edward, quoted in an excerpt obtained by the point of sale.
“During this time, something had happened which, although I didn’t realize it at the time, was destined to change the course of my life,” Edward wrote. “I met Wallis Warfield Simpson.”
The outlet noted that Edward and Simpson struggled financially after the abdication. Due to the cutoff of the monarchy, the couple had no source of income. Therefore, Edward’s royalties helped keep them entertained as they lived in France.
Simpson published his own memoir, entitled “The Heart Has Its Reasons”, in 1956.

On Tuesday, a spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex confirmed to Fox News that the 36-year-old was writing what his editor calls a “heartfelt and intimate memoir”.
Random House plans to publish the currently untitled book in late 2022. Although financial terms have not been disclosed, Harry will donate the profits to charity, the publisher noted.

According to Random House, Harry’s book will serve as the “definitive story.”
