Prince Harry isn’t the first royal to step down and later write a revealer.

His great-great-uncle, Edward, Duke of Windsor, produced a ghost-written biography titled “A King’s Story: The Memoirs of the Duke of Windsor” in 1951.

Edward VIII, Queen Elizabeth II’s uncle, abdicated the throne in 1936 so he could marry American divorced Wallis Simpson. Elizabeth’s father, George VI, became King until his death in 1952. Elizabeth was crowned Queen in 1953.

On Tuesday, People magazine reported that Edward’s memoir recalled his own upbringing, which led to him falling in love with the socialite and ultimately relinquishing the post of monarch.

“Given my character, my roving curiosity and my independence, my life seemed to form a disconnected pattern – duty without decision, service without responsibility, pomp without power,” wrote Edward, quoted in an excerpt obtained by the point of sale.

“During this time, something had happened which, although I didn’t realize it at the time, was destined to change the course of my life,” Edward wrote. “I met Wallis Warfield Simpson.”

The outlet noted that Edward and Simpson struggled financially after the abdication. Due to the cutoff of the monarchy, the couple had no source of income. Therefore, Edward’s royalties helped keep them entertained as they lived in France.

Simpson published his own memoir, entitled “The Heart Has Its Reasons”, in 1956.

“As well as saying that she thought she might become Queen, she wrote that when that dream was shattered, she and the Duke believed that they could at least live in Britain permanently and that she would achieve royal rank, “The New York Times reported.

Edward died in 1972 at the age of 77. Simpson died in 1986 at the age of 89.

On Tuesday, a spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex confirmed to Fox News that the 36-year-old was writing what his editor calls a “heartfelt and intimate memoir”.

In response to the book’s announcement, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson told Fox News “this is not something we would comment on.”

In his announcement, Harry said his book aimed to tell “my story”.

“I am writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become,” Harry said in a statement. “I have worn many hats over the years, literally and figuratively, and I hope that by telling my story – the ups and downs, the mistakes, the lessons learned – I can help show that little no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think. “

“I am deeply grateful that I have had the opportunity to share what I have learned in my life so far and look forward to people reading a first hand account of my life that is accurate and totally truthful, ”Harry added.
