In an article published Friday evening, Ian Begley of SNY reports that if the Nets sign Kyrie Irving, it is "very unlikely" that D'Angelo Russell stays with the Nets.
Begley writes …
If Irving signs with the Nets, SNY sources familiar with the record say that it is highly unlikely that Russell will stay with the Nets. Members of the Nets organization have communicated this idea in recent days, sources said.
However, league sources tell NetsDaily that the Nets remain "fluid and flexible" and deny that the Nets have communicated with DLo "in any way" about the consequences of signing by Irving.
The question of whether DLo and Irving can play together was the source of the NBA debates with most national experts suggesting that this "does not work", "will not work". However, Anthony Puccio and Brian Lewis wrote last month that the Net Sarah Kustok said this week that Kenny Atkinson considered the two men as heartfelt leaders. (Lewis also said the high school coach of both players said he could play "1,000%".)
In addition, DLo liked a post on Instagram that showed the Russell and Irving jerseys side by side.

In his account, Begley also reported that, although Irving seems to lean toward Brooklyn, he did not inform other teams of his absence.
At the end of this week, teams interested in continuing Kyrie Irving Remains under the impression that the Nets were the favorite to land the leader, sources said. But no team interested in Irving, including the Knicks and Lakers, had been led to believe they would no longer be able to sign it, according to these sources.
Of course, because of the vagaries of the collective agreement, it would be difficult to keep DLo and sign up to two free agents. Indeed, the Nets released free space a week ago by exchanging Allen Crabbe and two first players against Taurean Prince and a second player.
The free agency starts June 30 at 18h.
