Behind Fournette, JB has the upper hand on RB

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jaguars put veteran backstrike Alfred Blue in the injured reserve on Sunday, leaving coach Fournette with very little experience.

Fifth-round pick Ryquell Armstead and two players, the Jaguars, were rewarded on Sunday – three-year veteran Tyler Ervin and rookie Devine Ozigbo – are the only other half-strikers currently on the roster of 53 players. It's a little risky if we consider that Fournette missed 11 games in his first two seasons, nine because of an injury and two because of suspensions.

Blue is injured in the left ankle in the second preseason game and has not been trained since. He is not allowed to return from the IR before the 9th week but can start training two weeks earlier. That would mean that the first match that Blue could play would be the Jaguars' home game against Houston in London.

Blue racked up 2,407 yards and eight touchdowns and 69 assists for 470 yards and two touchdowns in five seasons with Houston.

Ervin has spent the last three seasons with the Texans and has won one in 2016 and four in 2017. Ozigbo has signed with New Orleans as an unprepared rookie this spring.

Offensive coordinator John DeFilippo said Fournette would play a major role in passing play in 2019. Fournette had two catches on three targets for 19 yards and seven assists for 29 yards in her only pre-season action.

Fournette missed six full games and two other games with a thigh injury, another leg injury and was suspended by the NFL for another time last season. He was punished for leaving the bench to fight in the Jaguars game against Buffalo.

The Jaguars also cut Sunday long live Matt Overton after acquiring sniffer Matt Orzech. Orzech signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an unlicensed free agent this spring and the Jaguars saw him closely during joint training sessions with the Ravens in August.

Overton made national news last week when he offered to buy season tickets to unhappy supporters of the Colts of Indianapolis who wanted a refund after the surprise retirement of ############################################################################################### Andrew Luck. Overton tweeted that he would buy these tickets and give them to patients and their families at Riley Hospital of Indianapolis for children.

He came back on Twitter on Sunday to thank the Jaguars "for the incredible opportunity. "
