Tesla invited CleanTechnica at his Fremont factory and snuck in some time to his headquarters plant. Zach Shahan wrote a beautiful article about the Tesla seat factory and Chanan Bos made a fantastic video documenting the events inside the factory. CleanTechnica TV. That's all for your pleasure, of course.
The factory where Tesla builds its seats may not look exciting, but as the only automaker to build its own seats, we were excited by our exclusive look at what is a factory all in fact unique in the automotive industry. Tesla has not only integrated the manufacture of seats in-house. She also applied automation for which she became known in the industry at her seating plant. This automation has resulted in the most automated lower seat assembly of the automotive world, which you can see in our video below.
Tesla was kind enough to raise the curtain on its seat manufacturing operations, where we were able to get a glimpse of the right balance between automation and man-made manufacturing that incorporates seats for its vehicles.
The seats that go into Tesla vehicles are not any seats – they're world-class car seats, made with vegan fabric that not only replaces the leather adequately, but is really superior in every respect. Tesla's vegan leather seats, aesthetically beautiful (that's a fact), are beautifully durable, very stain resistant, very soft and (of course) greener than the norm.
Our video above provides a unique insight into the technology that Tesla applies to seats installed in its vehicles. That said, although the seats are important for certain parts of your body, they are not even close to the most advanced components of the car. Wait until we discover the Tesla autopilot hardware and battery management systems. This is where it gets really exciting. You can begin to see the future through the possibilities of each technology individually and more collectively as part of the car.
