Earlier in the season, Shubenkov took third place at the "Diamond League" the second – at the stage in Eugene. On 29 May, Shubenkov won the Russian team championship, on 3 June the Russian rider took first place in the Dutch Hengelo tournament on 5 June – at the Turku Turku competitions on 8 June – at the Chorzów tournament on 20 June at Montreux Tournament, France, July 2 – at the tournament in Székesfehérvár (Hungary). At the Diamond League Stadium in Paris (June 30), the Russian was disqualified for false start.
Shubenkov is the only sprinter in the history of Soviet and Russian male athletics, winner of the 110m hurdles World Championship in 2015. He is the winner of the world silver championships ( 2017) and bronze (2013), as well as his two victories at the European Championships (2012, 2014).
