It is difficult to find a youth tournament on beach volleyball, from which Russian athletes would come back without a medal. At the recent World Championships, until the age of 20, our athletes won: Dmitry Veretiuk and Denis Shekunov in the men's standings, and Maria Bocharova and Maria Voronina in the women's competition. Plus, Alexei Gusev and Pavel Shustrov won bronze.

THE WORK OF THE FEDERATION AND THE TEAM LOOKED ALL

– In the playoffs Veretyuk / Shekunov did not lose a single set. Was the victory so easy? – Question to Kiselyov

– If you carefully study the grid, from the beginning, and not from the playoffs it becomes clear that there simply was not any. Future champions Veretiuk and Shekunov led the way with a qualification. It was pretty nervous there, because this step always crushes psychologically. The first match was won easily, the second was more difficult. We played with the Latvians, whom we know well, because we often go through. The statistics of the personal meetings are rather positive – 7: 0 in our favor. After that, we were in an extremely complicated group. In this are, for example, the Germans, with whom they then played in the final. And the first match was with Brazil – the couples of this country are traditionally strong. By U-21 last year, it was the Brazilians who won. So the boys gave in to them. Then there was a defeat of Germany 1: 2, but not without unsatisfied setbols. Then there was a tough match for the exit in the playoffs – coped ..

– And then it's time for the games to fly?

– Yes, and every turn guys added. They trusted. In addition, they saw how opponents play. And then the Brazilians of the group went out with a sheet. And everything has happened! The same guys recently won the European Championship, which took place in Anapa. If, before the start of the tournament someone said that they – after all, they still have two years to play at that age – will reach the final and win there, then a lot would surprised. But the guys felt the taste of blood and learned to bite in the victories.

– Why did Veretiuk and Shekunov, European champions, qualify?

– The application and grid were formed before the European Championships. And at that time they were the second pair of the country. At the Kasimov tournament near Ryazan, Alexei Gusev and Pavel Shustrov were defeated. They also took first place at the February Russian Cup in Obninsk. Veretiuk / Shekunov and Gusev / Shustrov met in the semi-finals of the World Cup and the fight, as I expected, was very stubborn. Gusev / Shustrov in the first game had a set-ball, but they did not realize it and lost 22:24. In the second, too, all decided two points. Veretiuk / Shekunov have proved that for the moment they are very strong morally and physically. In China, it was very hot, stuffy, and high humidity – not everyone was able to cope with it. This left a big imprint. We were with the doctor from the youth team, which helped a lot our couples.

– How does the public react to the victory of younger guys than others? After all, at this age, even a six-month difference can have immense meaning.

– this is the case. But there are asterisks. Here, in the female part, two Marias won: Bocharov and Voronin. So, Bocharova is even younger! She was born in 2002. And already in the past to the year, she became the champion of Europe at the age of 20 years. In this season, girls and boys in general have collected all the gold in U-18, U-20, U-22. This has never happened! The work of the federation and the entire Russian team has been celebrated by everyone.

– This is not a results forcing?

– We are very attentive to this question. In beach volleyball, anthropometric data is of great importance. Five years ago, we played children – at 1.85 meters. For boys under 18, they were good, but then lost. Now we train the staff to set the task of bringing pairs together so that at least one of the athletes was high. It's a job for the future

– How tall are our world champions?

– 1.97 m, it's already good. God willing, add another 3-5 cm. And so the transition from youth to the main team we have. Stoyanovsky, Krasilnikov – examples of this.

– In recent years, Russians at the youth level have won almost everything possible. Do you have this explanation?

– Everything coincided. There is a big reaction from the federation, which always meets us half way. This gives the opportunity to play in tournaments, there are constant fees. We even work in the sand on the sand in Anapa in winter. There are such conditions! During the youth championship of Europe, I was approached, probably, by all the foreign coaches, and said that they were surprised by these fancy conditions. We got used to good, and they admired.

The talented generation of athletes grew up in the country. Where without it? In addition, a very strong coaching team: there are specialists from Krasnodar, Obninsk, Peter. Teams of different ages train together, the youngest ones learn from seniors. Sometimes it is possible to work with by someone since the base, which gives a good increase. So all these successes are not accidental.
