The attendance of the festivities of July 21 in Brussels largely exceeded, on the whole day of Saturday, 200.000 people, according to the estimate of the spokesman of the police of Brussels-Ixelles Ilse Van from Keere. The public was more numerous than last year, according to Carine Verstraeten, general secretary of the tourist office in Brussels who organized part of the festivities. In 2017, the police had specifically stopped on the number of 230,000 people for the whole day. The place des Palais, saturated by the crowd, had to be closed for the fireworks given at 23:00. It was also closed in 2017. The maximum capacity of 25,000 people was then announced. There were 167 interventions and 6 evacuations to hospitals, according to the unfinalized report sent at 8:00 pm by Sandrine Devers, Communication Manager for the Belgian Red Cross. (Belga)
