The elite of the world pharmacy is invited Monday in Paris, on the occasion of the "Dolder", a private forum and whose exchanges remain secret. Enough to feed the many fantasies about the opacity of the "big pharma".
"This is not a cult!" Ironically defends a French pharmaceutical source interviewed by AFP. "This is a think-tank of the great bosses of the world pharmacy, which takes place once or twice a year."
The Dolder takes its name from a large hotel in Zurich, the Dolder Grand, a kind of castle Alpine with turrets looking straight out of a James Bond movie, where this circle met for the first time from the 1970s.
"But it turns now, there have been meetings in the States In Japan, Brazil, Italy too ", according to the source interviewed by AFP.
This small summit of about 25 bosses is even more confidential than its model, the Bilderberg club, which meets every year in camera a hundred personalities of the business world and politics.
Because unlike the Bilderberg, the Dolder has no official website disclosing at least the place and date of the appointment, the themes of the discussions and the list of the participants.
Thus, no mention of the Dolder on the site of the federation Geneva-based International Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (IFPMA).
"Participants are CEOs of globally active pharmaceutical companies based in the United States, Europe and Japan, which are members of the IFPMA, "AFP spokesman Ian Read, head of the US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, told AFP.
This private meeting" serves as a forum for discussion on the challenges of global health and public health policies impacting biomedical innovation ", adds the spokesperson.
The boss of a large company in the host country of each Dolder plays usually the role of master of ceremonies. Also this function will fall on Monday to Olivier Brandicourt, the general director of Sanofi, who will make an introductory speech, tells AFP a spokesman for the French pharmaceutical giant.
In front of who will speak-t- he? As an example, AFP has confirmed the presence of Kenneth Frazier (CEO of Merck & Co), Lars Fruergaard Jørgensen (Novo Nordisk), Stefan Oschmann (Merck KGaA), David Ricks (Eli Lilly), Kåre Schultz (Teva), Pascal Soriot (AstraZeneca), Michel Vounatsos (Biogen), Emma Walmsley (GSK) or Christophe Weber (Takeda) …
The date and the holding of the Dolder this year in Paris have nothing to 'trivial. The meeting is held the day before the Strategic Council of Health Industries (Csis), a forum for dialogue between the State and companies in the sector meeting every two years since 2004 under the aegis of the Prime Minister.
Elsewhere, the Dolder's CEOs will be invited to dinner by Emmanuel Macron on Monday evening, the Elysee told AFP.
